Why be negeaive?

I have never understood why people need to be negative, especially disabled people. I am a critical person but I can always evidence my concerns with detailed explanation rather than inaccurate sweeping statements. These blogs may be simple and short, but they are written on solid foundations and a positive outlook on the world.

I have always been able to find the positive in the most difficult situations and look at what can be achieved rather than the difficulties. It is clear to be many so-called disabled activists frown upon people who are positive, as they prefer to spout negative government hating nonsense on how bad life is for disabled people.

Life is what you put into it and if they want a negative world, that is what they will receive. Life is not always easy but it is worth living and being positive about.

  1. Thanks for 'liking' me on Facebook. You asked a question, so do you mind if I answer it?

As a comedian [first] who has CP [second], I have always enjoyed talking about having CP in a negative way as dark humour appeals to me. Writing jokes from the perspective of 'this sh*t sucks' has always appealed to me, and I don't really get why I'm the only comedian with cp doing it (but I'm glad I'm the only one as it means I'm unique). The medical model may be highly flawed, but comedy-wise it is, in my opinion, a goldmine, so I'm going to keep at it.

I, personally, don't see why being negative about having a disability is a problem, providing you enjoy and value the other parts of your life, and get some enjoyment out of being negative (but is it really being negative if you enjoy it??).

But then again, I might not feel that way if I didn't like the kind of humour I do.

I think the bottom line is, some people (me) enjoy the dark side, and others don't, but it's not a case of right and wrong. Is that ok?

  2. Hi Ted,

Thanks for your comment and I agree with what you are saying since you are being positive about being negative and critical. You have also been powered in reclaiming your experiences. I also take positive actions about my negative experiences.

What is mean by negative is sitting at home doing nothing and complaining without taking action, and I do not think that is you. So I think we are on the same lines.

I saw your tweet about I'm Spazticus and I was not sure if you were looking forward to it or not, I think you may like it as its certainly not PC nor overly positive but just funny in that black comic way which may not be everyone's taste.

    Thanks, Simon

  3. Exactly, I think we agree, I get out there and very much enjoy my life so I guess I'm a positive person too! I hate genuine moaners, who refuse to get anything out of life, I just feel there's nothing wrong with just admitting it's a bit of a pain sometime – especially if you get a kick out of it.

Can't say I'm sold by the idea of I'm Spazticus, but I'll watch it with an open mind, honest!!
